How it works
Owning a domain, the boring-on-purpose way.
Here’s what we actually do, what you actually get, and what we won’t do to you. In plain English.
What happens when you grab a domain
No 14-step checkout, no add-on roulette. Five steps. About five minutes.
You search
Type the name you want into the search bar. We check it against the registry in real time.
We confirm
You see “available, $20/year” or “taken, here’s the owner.” No upsells, no slipped-in extras.
You pay
Card via Stripe or PayID. Tax invoice on the spot. We don’t store the card.
We register
Through our accredited registrar partner. Usually live within five minutes; auDA can take up to an hour.
You point it
Use our dashboard to set DNS, or just tell us where to point it — we’ll do it for you, free.
You forget
One short renewal reminder per year, in plain text, with last year’s price next to this year’s.
Bringing an existing domain over
Already have a domain somewhere else? Transferring it in is easy and we’ll do most of the work.
- You ask your current registrar for the auth/transfer code (one email, one click)
- You send it to us — we initiate the transfer and pay the registry fee
- Your existing DNS keeps working through the transfer — zero downtime
- You pay just one year of extension at our flat rate (e.g. $20 for a .com.au) — that becomes the new expiry
- Want to leave us later? We send the auth code in five minutes. No exit fee, no “are you sure” popups, no “wait, we’ll match the price” emails.
DNS, included
Every domain you register with us comes with free DNS hosting. No tier, no plan, no “upgrade for advanced records.”
DNS hosting
A clean dashboard with all the records you’d expect: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA. Unlimited subdomains. Fast global anycast. If you’d rather we just point it at your host, email us and it’s done.
For a full mailbox at you@yourname.com.au with login, sent folder and calendar, we’ll point you at Google Workspace or Fastmail rather than upselling our own — both are better at it. We’ll happily configure the MX records for you.
WHOIS privacy
For TLDs that allow it (.com, .net, .org, .io, etc.) WHOIS privacy is on by default and free. For .au domains, auDA mandates that registrant ABN and contact details are visible — we can’t hide that, but it’s the same for every .au registrar.
The chill way
Things we won’t do.
The dark-pattern playbook the rest of the industry uses, and our written-down promise not to do any of it.
No “intro” pricing
The first-year price is the renewal price. We will never bait you with $1 and rotate to $40.
No pre-ticked add-ons
The checkout has the domain. That’s it. No silently added “website builder”, no “privacy upgrade”, no “site insurance.”
No fake countdowns
There is no “PRICE EXPIRES IN 4:59.” The price is the price. Take a week to think about it.
No auto-renew tricks
Auto-renew is off by default. If you turn it on, we email a few days before charging. You always know.
No transfer-out fees
Want to leave? You can. The auth code arrives in five minutes. No retention call. No exit charge.
No scare-emails
One renewal email, sent once, in plain English. No 60-day “FINAL NOTICE” in red. No fake invoices.
No cancel-flow gauntlet
Cancelling auto-renew is one click. Letting a domain go is one reply to the renewal email. We won’t guilt-trip you.
No tracking sale
We don’t sell your details. There’s no Meta pixel, no LinkedIn tag, no advertising audience export. Your data stays yours.
What we don’t do (and where to go instead)
We’ve kept the scope deliberately small. If you need any of these, here’s where to look — we promise not to sell you an inferior version.
Website hosting
We register the domain and host the DNS. For your actual site, Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages or your existing host all work great. We’ll point the DNS for you, free.
Email mailboxes
For an inbox at you@yourname.com.au with login, sent folder and calendar, use Google Workspace or Fastmail. Both are excellent and we’re not going to upcharge you for something they do better — we’ll happily set up the MX records for you.
SSL certificates
Almost every host gives these out free now via Let’s Encrypt. If yours doesn’t, switch hosts — don’t pay $200 a year for one. We’ll never sell you a cert.
