Transfer your domains · no loyalty tax, no hidden renewal price
The top search result for “.com.au domain” right now is a headline screaming “$0.99*” before you’ve even clicked. (You won’t actually be able to buy that .com.au for $0.99, by the way!) — but try to find what you’ll pay next year. It’s buried in a footnote, hidden behind a login, or simply not there. That’s the trick: a sweetheart deal for new sign-ups, then the renewal quietly lands at three or four times the price once you’re locked in. We don’t play that game. New customers and existing customers pay the same rate — no loyalty tax, no laziness tax, no surprise hike on year two. The number itself can drift over time as wholesale costs and inflation do, but when it moves it moves for everyone at once.
Our philosophy is greyhound philosophy. The greyhound is the fastest dog on earth — flat out, around 70 km/h — but the rest of the time it’s asleep on the sofa. That’s the model. Sharp when it counts: we’ll register a domain, transfer one in, or point your DNS in five minutes flat. The rest of the time we stay out of your inbox. Best at what we do, no pestering — that’s the whole personality.
Chill Domains is a small, Australian-run domain service. We’re not a venture-backed funnel, we don’t have a sales floor, and we don’t track you across the internet. We just want owning a domain to be as boring and predictable as it ought to be — renewal time included.
And here’s why we can keep it that way: Chill Domains is run by John Walsh-Green, Managing Director of Digital Greenhouse Pty Ltd — captain of the ship. No shareholders pushing him around, no board of directors asking why the renewal isn’t higher this quarter, no VC term sheet demanding growth-at-all-costs, and no plan to sell the business off to someone bigger who’d quietly walk back every promise on this page once you’re a customer. We’re not playing the late-stage capitalism game where every product slowly gets worse, every price quietly climbs, and every checkout grows a new dark pattern six months from now. Anti-enshittification isn’t a marketing line for us — it’s structural. We make a fair margin, we don’t answer to anyone but our customers, and we stay out of your inbox. That’s the whole business.
The practical upshot for you: no need to shop around every year to dodge a loyalty tax or a laziness tax. The renewal we send you is the same competitive market rate a brand-new customer would pay — existing customers don’t subsidise discounts for new signups, and forgetting to comparison-shop doesn’t get punished. Set it, forget it, and the price you’re on stays fair by default.
The renewal trap
Try it — open any big registrar in a new tab and hunt for the price you’ll pay next year. It’s not next to the sign-up price. It’s in a help-centre article, a knowledge-base footnote, or only visible once the domain is already in your cart and you’ve typed in a card. That’s because the renewal is three or four times the headline number, and they’d rather you didn’t see it until you’re locked in. We put both prices on the same line. Same number, every year.
And watch out for the strike-through trick. You’ve seen it — $15 $1, big bold “save 93%!”. That crossed-out number isn’t the renewal. It’s their regular first-year price, marked down for the first year only. The renewal is a third number entirely — and it’s nowhere on the page. So you’re looking at two numbers, feeling like you’re getting a deal, and the actual price you’ll pay every year after isn’t even in the conversation.
Bring an existing .com.au across and there’s no transfer fee — you just pay one year of cheap renewal added onto your expiry date. We’ll walk you through the auth code from your current registrar. Takes about five minutes.
Year one and your renewal are the same number, printed right next to each other. No hunting through a help article to find what you’ll pay next year. No “$0.99 first year, $40 to renew” switcheroo buried two clicks deep. The renewal email even shows last year’s amount next to this year’s, so you can see for yourself.
No 14 checkboxes between you and checkout. No “protect your privacy for an extra $20” (it’s free, where allowed). No SSL upsell for a thing your host already gives you. One page, one price, done.
One renewal reminder, sent once, with the price in plain text. No “FINAL NOTICE - DOMAIN EXPIRING” in bright red 60 days early. No fake invoices from “Domain Registry” (those are scams — we’ll explain).
On or off, you decide. We don’t pre-tick the box. We don’t silently bill the card you used in 2021. And if you want to let a domain go, you can — we won’t guilt-trip the cancel screen.
Email info@digitalgreenhouse.com.au and an actual person replies, usually same day. No ticket system, no chatbot routing, no “tier 1” vs “tier 2” runaround.

Renewal pricing, fine print, retention popups — and a greyhound who naps through all of it. Everything in them is our actual policy.
